Art 141 Portfolio - Spring 2024

For my portfolio, I utilized pressed flowers and black-and-white photography of women to create compositions that highlight the rigidness and sexualized nature of modeling photography in comparison to the delicate and soft nature of flowers. I explored themes of sexuality, sexualization, appearance, societal pressures of 'softness' and feminity, and popular female media figures to create these pieces. One figure whom I was particularly fascinated by during this project was Sharon Tate. Although Tate had a short, beautiful life, I was amazed at how many photographs were taken of her. It seems as though every second of her life was on film. Toward the end of my project, I used photos of her to attempt to reverse that fact, take away the power of the photographer, and give it back to the subject– Tate.
